Whistler Family Portraits

It’s been a hectic couple months here with the Olympics and everything involved.  We recently purchased a new house and as such have neglected this poor blog.

Had a great day photographing a lovely family from Seattle.  Funny kids and easy to get some emotions.

Here are some of my favourites from their family portraits.20100215_whistler_photo_portrait_fyffe01420100215_whis_fyffe061

Whistler Winter Wonderland!

Wow, so much snow I can’t even make it up my driveway these days!  The last month has been busy with all the snow.  Lots of time spent thinking about and looking at presents for my lovely lady, as well as a couple days shooting some snowboarding for some friends snowboard company.

Winter is a gorgeous time for a Whistler Wedding.  Some people are scared off by the cold, the snow, and the general nuisance snow can cause for a wedding, but it really is beautiful!!!

It’s been a great time to spend with my friends and most of my all my girl.  I always love photographing her whatever it is we may be doing.  Usually the dogs are in tow and often add some comic relief to our day.

Anyhow, hope everyone has some great holidays and time to spend with the ones you love.

Head on over  here to take a look at my wedding portfolio and see how I can make you look your best in the Whistler mountains and snow!

What to look for when choosing a wedding photographer

I thought this would be a good topic to share some insight on as at this time I am also looking for my very own wedding photographer, and it’s a much larger task than I ever imagined.

Number 1.  The Images!  I think to be completely happy with your choice of a photographer, the images they take and how you connect with them is most important.  It’s really up to you(Bride and Groom) to decide and “connect” with this photographer.  Everyone has different tastes, but this is your day and I feel it’s important you like the style the photographer has.

Number 2.  Variety!  Some people(even myself!) can sometimes turn wedding photography into more of a process rather than a new experience.  As I’ve grown I feel each wedding goes from less of a process to more of taking each wedding individually and creating images based on that day rather than trying to recreate images from past weddings.

Number 3.  Personality!  I can’t even describe how important it is to ensure you have a great connection with your wedding photographer.  You’re going to spend a large portion of your day with him(or her) and to create some great images you really need to connect with your photographer and trust his/her judgement.  That personal comfort can really show in some images and being able to be yourself in front of your photographer will create some very intimate and emotion filled images.

Number 4.  Value!  This is always a tough one, we all like to be wise with our money and it’s often hard to differentiate what to spend on a wedding photographer, especially in a place like Whistler but in my opinion it comes to how much you value your wedding photography.  Some people try to establish value based on the products offered, but I often find this never accounts for the value of the actual photos.  I’d suggest finding a style you really love and try to find a photographer that fits your budget.  Remember that your photographs are the one thing you will always look at to reflect on the day.  The meals, music, and decorations will most likely be forgotten, but the photos with your best friend will always be there.

Thanks for reading, feel free to contact me with any of your Whistler Wedding needs.

Lost Lake Wedding, Whistler

Well fall is here, technically almost leaving as the snow has been teetering with the valley.

I was fortunate enough to share some time with Shannon and Scott on their very special and intimate wedding.  I often enjoy the smaller weddings around as you are granted much more time to try different spots and really get the couple to relax and enjoy being in front of the camera.

here are a couple of my favourites from their whistler wedding.

If you aren’t familiar with the weather patterns of the Coastal Mountain range, you may not realize how fabulous this summer has been.  Usually the “wet” coast is…. well very wet.  This summer has been one for the records, and the fact it’s almost November and the weather is just a slight bit colder without much rain makes it the best Summer/Fall I’ve had in the area.

Wedding season is wrapping up with one left on the books and I’ll be focussing more of my time preparing for a winter of snowboarding as well as preparing packages and accepting bookings for your Whistler Wedding in 2010 and beyond!

Feel free to contact me with any of your Whistler Portrait or Wedding needs.

Getting married in Whistler can be very exciting, however, if you haven’t been to Whistler often or are not familiar with the area if can be a bit daunting to choose locations for the reception, photos, and ceremony.

Whistler Wedding Ceremony spots:

Ross Rebagliati Park- a small park nestled between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains with the Fitzsimmons river passing on both sides of the park.  Very great outdoor spot for a wedding ceremony.  Nice beautiful trees with great mountain views.  Click here for a picture of the area

Rainbow Park- a large park on Alta Lake on the west side of Whistler.  Beautiful views of Whistler, Blackcomb, Armchair and Wedge Mountains.  Very beautiful lake and a great spot for your wedding photography as well.  Click here for an aerial photo of the area

Whistler Wedding Photography spots:

As well as the above mention Rainbow park, there are also many great photo opportunity spots throughout the valley.  Probably way too many to list here, but some of my favourites include on: Whistler or Blackcomb mountains, Lost Lake, Alpha lake, Green Lake, Meadow Park, the village, and to be honest almost every location in Whistler has great potential for amazing photographs.

Whistler Accomodation:

Being the resort town it is, there are numerous choices and often hard to decide.  The list below outlines some that I have stayed in personally or have had family stay there while visiting and I would highly recommend.

Fairmont Chateau Whistler – located at the base of Blackcomb mountain, this hotel has great service, large and comfortable sized rooms, as well as being very close to Whistler Village

Nita Lake Lodge- one of the newer hotels in the area, it is located on Nita Lake and in the creekside area of Whistler.  A bit quieter than Whistler Village and a great choice for those wanting to enjoy the town without all the craziness that comes along with Whistler

Pemberton Valley Lodge- located 20 minutes north of Whistler, Pemberton is a great alternative to Whistler as in the summer it hosts many of the same activities on a much more relaxed scale.  Fabulous rooms, paired with great service make this hotel a great choice and my parent’s first choice when visiting.

Anyhow, I’ve hoped this has helped a bit.  If you ever do need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Have a great day!

Jonathan

If you’ve found your way here I’m confident you’ve also stumbled upon many other talented photographers qualified to photograph your wedding as well.  So I decided that it might help to know more about my photography and the advantages of hiring my services to photograph your Whistler wedding.

- I have extensive knowledge of the Whistler area(parks, forest service roads, backcountry locations), ensuring the best possible locations for your wedding photography.  Being a long term resident here I have a home-town advantage of being exposed to great new photo locations and also the knowledge of when the light is best for each.

- unique style.  Having gained most of my photography experience in the snowboard industry I feel I have developed a style that still shows elegance, yet a bit edgy and creative all while showcasing those very special emotions complimented by the beautiful Whistler scenery.

-you get me all to yourself!  I only take on one wedding per weekend.  Your day is so important that it deserves my full attention and I feel in order to to provide the best wedding photos possible there should be no other weddings, photoshoots that will interfere with providing you the best Whistler wedding photography.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog and if you have any questions about Whistler wedding photography or are interest in hiring me as your wedding photographer, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Allow me to introduce myself

20090421_banff_wedding_110

20090421_banff_wedding_photo_032

Hi!  Thanks for visiting the blog, hope you enjoy what you see.

Anyhow I just wanted to introduce myself incase you were curious.  I began my career in photography just over 5 years ago.  I began this awesome journey of wedding photography starting out in professional snowboard photography.  I’ve had images used commercially as well as in most of the editorial magazines out there.

Things were going great until one cold winter morning when my driveway was turned into a skating rink.  Unbeknownst to me, I made my normal trip to my truck, but unfortunately hit a very smooth patch on the way and ended up breaking my ankle(dislocation, tib and fib).

This event allowed considerable time for a re-evaluation of my goals and ambitions, it donned on me that there were many other types of photography that I’ve yet to explore.  Since then I’ve decided rather to focus solely on the action sports that I wanted to explore more emotion filled and personal photos.  I love trying to create images that really show someone’s personality as well as including the landscape and environment of the person.

Anyhow, hope you enjoy the blog and the images.  Check back often for updates!
